The first ever Hello Kitty-themed maternity hospital has opened in Taiwan with the aim of easing the stress of childbirth with images of the popular cartoon character.
From blankets and birth certificates to cots and uniforms worn by staff, every aspect of the Hau Sheng Hospital in Yuanlin in central Taiwan is emblazoned with the feline motif.
Patients are welcomed to the 30-bed hospital by a statue of Hello Kitty dressed in a doctor’s uniform.
Then they will be greeted by the site of a pink elevator, complete with posters of the cartoon character on the wall.
And newborns get everything Hello Kitty but a set of whiskers, including pink or blue receiving blankets, nurses dressed in pink uniforms with cat-themed aprons, cot linen and room decor.
Hospital’s director Tsai Tsung-chi opened the £2m (T$100m) hospital in his hometown after obtaining authorisation from the fictitious cat’s Japanese parent company Sanrio Co Ltd.
The hospital claims to be the only medical institution of its kind which has been authorised by the company.
The director says he hopes the white, mouthless cat that is one of the world’s most recognisable characters will ease the pain and fear associated with childbirth and being admitted into hospital.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely want to give birth to my future children here. Its just too ridiculous and too awesome to pass up. Although, I find it totally hilarious that the director is claiming the objective is to make pregnant women and ill people smile more by having a themed hospital.
Alright…a room full of Hello Kitty and pink would be the last place I’d want to be in if I were to be all jacked up from the meds they’re sure to give you. It’ll be like a bad trip off of weird Hello Kitty hallucinogens. You’ve heard of K? Well now hear HK. haha oh my, I am a riot.
Also, Jordan brought up a good point when he said, “this is kinda morbid, but what if a baby is sick or dies, and its being taken across that cheery pink circus? i think it would tramatize a parent eveeen more than just the illness.”
Very true. I guess they should have considered Badtz Maru instead of Hello Kitty..since we all know he’s the best one of all!

I understand why people have new years resolutions. I also believe once its a new year, you have a clean slate. The turning of a new year gives people the feelings of starting all over, almost like you’ve been baptized again. Although, I’d rather not have any resolutions. I have expectations and goals (two different things), but I think everyone should always be striving to be better, no matter if its the new year or not.
I’ve made resolutions before, most of which I’ve never kept. But 2008 was a turning point in my life. Looking back, I did everything I said I would. I got a new job that fits my career path; one at immergent Records and an awesome PR internship at 944 Magazine. I also met more people who’ve only made positive impacts on me and been able to find my niche in life.
2008 was also an extreme year. After exceeding my initial goals for 2008, it also came with challenges. Everyone I know seems to be unemployed. Being unemployed SUCKS and it also gives you too much free time to think about things. Little things start bothering you when you have too much time on your hands to actually think about that. Thank gawd I kept myself slightly sane with the internship.
But problems in 2008 should never creep its way to 2009. Harder.Better.Faster.Stronger. That’s the only way I can roll. I don’t have any resolutions on quitting smoking (even though I smoked less than one pack in the time I was away for vacay), limiting my drinking, or cutting any vices out. I will say that there has been lots of moderation, but not because I feel bad about doing it, but because I just wanted to. People can’t quit anything if they’re not ready to. But I’m more than ready to take on this year bigger and better! Better in school, better in work, better at everything. Everything that matters, that is.
I have realistic goals. I hate it when people go, “yeah I’m gonna quit this and that and that” when you know they’re not. But expect some great fucking things churning up this year! Its going to be fucking RIDICULOUS!!

It’s 5 in the morning and I’m still awake. Fully awake. I got back from the Philippines last night and I’m completely jet lagged. Not sure what time it is over there, but whatever time it is, if I decided to stay, I would probably be kayaking or diving into some fresh water after sipping my San Miguel Light beer. But I don’t live my life by “if’s.”
I’m kind of sad to not be there right now. I only stayed there short of two weeks, but it seemed like I’ve been gone for two months. My life stood still there and it was exactly what I needed. 33 thousand feet in the air for 18 hours is almost enough time to think about anything. I mean anything. Whenever I go back I always think of the life that would have been if I stayed, and I’m so thankful I didn’t. Even though it saddens me that I’m back to the reality and the grind of life, I’m thankful that I can do it in the city where anything you dream of can happen and does happen — good and bad.
But I recharged my batteries and rejuvenated myself. Now I’m back, better than ever, and ready to kick some major ass in 2009! I’ll post my pictures soon..I took like, a million (I’m asian, what can I say?).
But till then, hope your holidays were as good as mine…and mine was damn good.
Love,
Mischa
